In 1905, the Great Anthracite Coal Strike threatened public safety in Pennsylvania. An organized force was needed to provide the service of protecting our citizens; hence the creation of the Department of State Police, the first organization of it's kind in the country and one after which many other police agencies were modeled.

In Recognition of the 105th Anniversary of the Pennsylvania State Police

Sunday, May 2, 2010, will mark three significant events in the history of the Pennsylvania State Police.

They are the 105th Anniversary of the Department, the 50th Anniversary of the first cadet class to undergo training at the State Police Academy and the 5th Anniversary of the ground breaking for the State Police Museum (PSP-HEMC) located adjacent to the Academy.

To commemorate these events, a memorial service will be conducted by the Department at the Academy at 1100 hours to honor those 93 members killed in the line of duty since our creation in 1905.

At the conclusion of the service, a brief ribbon cutting ceremony will be conducted in the Academy and a group photo taken of the members of the first Academy class. Members of the January 1960 class are therefore encouraged to attend the service and participate in the group photograph. Tours, a cook out, and Museum open house hosted by PSP-HEMC will follow the ribbon cutting and photo. In addition to being able to visit our Museum and gift shop, you will also be able to view various State Police historical photographs and artifacts on display including a 1972 Plymouth Fury II, the 1973 Tijuana Taxi and a fully restored replica of the Model T Rodeo Clown Car. The Museum will also present a power point lecture on the evolution of State Police training since 1921, complete with never before seen historical photographs.

Events at the museum will begin at 1:00pm and will conclude around 5:00pm. In order to better accommodate guests, we ask that you RSVP by email to psphemc@gmail.com   or by phone at 717-534-0565 and indicate how many guests you are bringing and if you are interested in participating in any of the tours or events listed below.
