Sergeant John C. LaRose 50, Troop F, was
killed in a vehicle crash when his patrol
car collided with another vehicle on Route 120
in Lumber Township, Pennsylvania, while traveling between Emporium and Muncy.
He was travelling on a curved portion of
roadway when his vehicle lost traction due to wet conditions. The vehicle crossed the
center line and struck another oncoming car. Sergeant LaRose was killed in the crash while
the two occupants of the other vehicle were injured.
Sergeant LaRose was an avid pilot, and spent 11 years flying in the state police's
Aviation patrol unit out of Montoursville.
After the air unit moved, LaRose was offered a position flying out of Harrisburg. However,
he wanted to stay in the local area, where he had built a home. He
returned to field
work instead of transferring down to Harrisburg.
He served as station commander of the Emporium barracks.
He was a son of Anthony N. LaRose Jr. and Amelia P.
(Pastorella) LaRose, who survive.
On July 22, 2000 he married the former Carla J. Simpler, who also survive with four children.
Sergeant LaRose was a U.S. Air Force veteran and At 50 years of age, Sergeant LaRose had
completed 21 years, 9 months of service with the Pennsylvania State Police.
Troopers from all over the area took part in funeral services for Sergeant John
LaRose in Muncy. Burial was held at 10 a.m. Officiating was Rev. Glenn McCreary.Interment
with Pennsylvania State Police honors followed at Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.
