Daniel F. Dunn
Daniel F. Dunn was appointed outside the department as the twelfth commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police. Dunn (held no paramilitary rank and did not wear a uniform while serving as Commissioner)

A historical change occurred during Dunn's tenure in June 1980, the member's were issued a new sidearm. The .357 Ruger, a stainless steel, four inch barrel revolver. It was the first major change change in State Police issued weapondry in its 75 year history.

Dunn died in office, May 1984.
