In 1972, a new color combination was introduced on the marked patrol cars to conform to the official  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania colors of blue and gold.

This change in color represented the first major  color change since 1963, when "green and whites" were introduced.

The blue and gold color scheme was in use for only a short period before being replaced in 1973 by a yellow and blue color combination.
